Prevenzione Serena Workshops

The data relating to the activities carried out as part of Prevenzione Serena screening program are amply illustrated during the annual workshops organized by the CPO Piemonte in collaboration with the AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza of Turin.

Below you can see the interventions of the featured speakers during the workshops of this year.

The materials for the workshops of previous years are stored in the Education and training section.

Prevenzione Serena Report

The annual report “Prevenzione Serena. Results, research, quality” presents results of the activities cunducted in the previous year in the context of  “Prevenzione Serena”, the Piedmont breast, cervix and colorectal cancer screening program.

Considerable space is devoted to investigations of some issues related to the organizational aspects, quality, innovation and screening communication. The report also provides a brief summary of the annual meetings of the Italian cancer screening working groups and proposes some scientific articles on topics of particular interest.

The data, collected with the cooperation of all screening operators of various Piedmont departments, are expressed through indicators that reflect the characteristics and quality level of the same programs.

The indicators are related to organizational aspects of screening (extension of invitations, compliance rate, waiting times) or to clinical diagnostic process (recall rate, benign and malign biopsies ratio, positive predictive value of screening tests and other diagnostic procedures). Through these indicators it is possible make a more detailed analysis of the instrumental and procedural characteristics and of the different stages of the screening process.

For each indicator a standard reference is given (acceptable and desirable) consistent with published guidelines at European level, in order to make data comparison possible . There are also some early indicators of impact that allow to understand how the program is running and if the results obtained are consistent with the expected mortality reduction (for example, for breast cancer screening, the rate of total tumours identification, that of invasive cancers, that of invasive carcinoma ≤ 10 mm, that of ductal in situ lesions).

To produce the indicators it is necessary collect the activity data of a year in the whole region and perform a series of checks and processing. The publication of the entire set of tables and indicators is ready after about 12 months after the end of the reference year.

In tables data are divided by: screening program, area, target population.
