The Reference Centre for Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention in Piemonte (CPO Piemonte) is structured into the following six main areas of activity.
To investigate causes of cancer through analytical studies aiming, in particular, at assessing the risk associated with carcinogenic exposures in life and work environment.
To provide methodological and statistical collaboration in the field of clinical research and quality assurance in oncology to the scientific, clinical and regulatory community, in particular to Health Services at the Regional level. To produce regional population-based reports on the use of health care cancer services (diagnosis, treatment and hospitalization).
To provide Local Health Authorities with the methodological support for planning, implementing and evaluating the impact of primary prevention programmes designed for individuals (e.g. interventions on lifestyle, nutrition, physical activity), and for life and work environment.
To provide Local Health Authorities with the methodological and operative support for planning, implementing and evaluating the cancer screening programmes, and for training the dedicated personnel. To conduct specific research projects on cancer screening.
To collect systematically data about all new cancer diagnoses, and to estimate cancer incidence, prevalence and survival. Cancer registries contribute to regional, national and international epidemiological studies.
To connect the various CPO Piemonte areas of activity concerning planning and evaluation of cancer care with the regional stakeholders involved in the clinical governance of the cancer care network.
